PIONEER MUSEUM

Pioneer Museum

The Pioneer Museum is an old hospital converted into a Museum of Flagstaff’s rich history. The building was first created in 1908 with rock from Mount Elden. This rock was available due to an explosion of the mountain around 500,000 years ago. It became the Coconino County Hospital in 1938. The entire museum is dedicated to preserving and sharing Flagstaff’s history of ranching, logging, transportation, and general life as a pioneer. There are three permanent exhibitions. These include the Hospital, an old operating and recovery room converted into an exhibit to teach you all about the hospital days of this building. Next is the Decade Rooms. These are dedicated to eras between 1880 and 1960. Lastly, there are the grounds. These include treasures such as an old locomotive and caboose ready to admire. The museum is partnered with Riordan Mansion and you can find deals for viewing both buildings. Check out our Riordan Mansion page for more details. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity to get a glimpse into Flagstaff’s riveting pioneer past!
